I taught guitar, piano and keyboard for over 10 years. I worked in recreation programs on saturdays in the schools as well as having a private studio at home. I did 7 lesson introductory classes in guitar workshops for K - 8th grade. The objectives of the course were to result in the child knowing the parts of the guitar, the names of the strings, and to be able to sing and strum a simple song with three string chords in a program performing for parents at the end of the seven weeks. It was successful and helped both the parents and the children to determine whether or not they wanted to invest the time in private lessons. I did something similar in adult classes but slightly more challenging.
Being able to get up and perform in front of people helped the students to develop a sense of accomplishment, confidence and pride in their learning experience.

Yes, those you have mentioned are also the things I confirm before accepting a guitar student. As a music teacher, I don't want to waste their time, efforts and money. I just ask their parents to bring them back to me once they already meet my criteria.
